Title: “Sunrise Series: ‘Sunrise in the Preserve'”
Medium: Paper Collage
Size: 16” x 10”
Year: 2020

Description:
Unlike many people who…
adopted dogs during the Covid pandemic, I turned to making art. For a time, art supplies weren’t available. So, I used whatever materials I had on hand.
A leftover piece of fluorescent orange poster board sparked inspiration for a series of collages. Drawing from reference photos, vibrant orange, pink, and purple sunrises seen through my front window became the background of these collages.
I also used pictures of…
the long-leaf pines from the Florida Gulf preserves where I hike—their tall, slender trunks and rounded crowns of needles became a key motif. As I cut out the tree for “Sunrise on the Preserve,” I decided to create a symmetrical silhouette: one towering slash pine against a fiery dawn. It felt like just enough—perfect.
