Florida Nature Preserves Collage

Filled with graceful towering Long Needle pines and the prolific shiny, green-leafed palmetto shrubs, I hike weekly through a couple of my favorite Florida Preserves.

Close to my home, two of these natural habitats border the beautiful and reflective, brown-edged Curry Creek that flows through the city of Venice, Florida to the Gulf. The Preserve path directly follows the creek providing an accessible view of the clear running waters and the palms and oaks growing alongside.

Recycled Fabric and Paper Collage

In this recycled fabric and paper collage, titled, “Cool and Calm on Curry Creek,” a live oak can’t help but take center stage. Its sturdy branches, dripping with sage-colored Spanish Moss, elegantly extend across the translucent water almost reaching the other side. Neighboring oaks and palms on the opposite bank cast their slim and graceful shadows on the sun-lit sparkling blue-hued waters.

New Paper Cutter

It’s the end of fall and the beginning of winter. New green leaves of the spring oak won’t be seen for months. In the meantime, the lacy yellow leaves on the oak’s uppermost branches, made from yellow paper I designed, printed, and cut with my new paper cutter, smile and wave their cheerfulness as I walk by in the cooling winter breeze.

A serene scene and setting I return to repeatedly to contemplate and find calm.
