I live in Venice, Florida during the winter. It’s a beautiful small city on the Gulf. When I moved to the area, downtown Venice captivated me with its picturesque charm of coral-colored buildings and awnings, palm tree-lined streets, and black wrought-iron hanging planters that bring to mind old-time blacksmithing.
I needed some new landscapes of my Florida winter home for an upcoming art show. So, using reference photos I’d taken of the planters, my plan was to make them a focal point of the collage. But the leafy shadows cast on the light-gray street by the looming palm trees just might have “overshadowed” and upstaged those planters, stealing the show!
With this collage, I am proud to be included in the City of Venice 2026 Centennial Celebration Partnership Program.
